Develop and progress your script

Louise Balint-Kurti

How Can I Help You?

Being a writer is often a long and lonely process. A dramaturg can be a sounding board for ideas, as well as helping with the technicalities, and enable you to move your script forward more quickly than plugging away on your own.

Script Report

As a freelance reader for film, TV and theatre companies I have written reports on hundreds of scripts, across all genres, and understand what producers are looking for when commissioning - and what they are not.

Script Edit

As a literary manager and editor, I have worked extensively with early-career writers and know the New Writing network well. Once you have been through a few drafts of your script a full edit will help you prepare for sending it out into the big, wide world of commissioning.

TESTIMONIALS

I worked with Louise when I was developing my play Bullet Hole as part of SundaySurgery scratch workshop. Louise had selected my script and was very instrumental in realising its potential for a staged production, and its niche subject matter on FGM, as a brave piece of new writing.

The play was due for its first run at the Camden Fringe Festival and I worked closely with Louise at each draft of the script, receiving the feedback on the quality of the work and suggesting improvements. I can commend Louise on her rapid speed in reading and providing feedback, her openness and honesty to challenge the writer's perspective, her investment in the characters of the story, her encouragement to push boundaries and challenge both social norms and the play’s form and her respect for the writer’s personal style of story-telling, as she was always diplomatic about the 'style' versus what will work. The play transferred to the Park Theatre and Louise and I worked together again for another re-draft of the script.

I was very impressed with the way she took on board the main points I wanted to get across in the new draft, which was based on prior feedback from the Camden Fringe. The play was nominated for an Offie for 'Most Promising New Playwright'. I will be working with Louise again, as I am adapting Bullet Hole into a screenplay and look forward to how her talent for script consultancy will be further complemented with her familiarity with the script.

Review of Bullet Hole
Gloria Williams
Playwright, Bullet Hole

Louise has been involved in several scripts I have written - two of which garnered great reviews. I find that her advice and input, from the bigger picture down to the details of dialogue, indispensable in the process of getting to that final draft. She isn’t afraid to say when something isn’t working – which is so important for a writer – but she presents it in a way that helps you find a solution.

Her previous experience at the BBC, running script development workshops and as an actress means she brings a rounded know-how of what works and what doesn’t. I have also taken early stage scripts to Louise, to help me gauge whether in fact I had a story and characters that would come to life.

For any writer, getting from the blank page to the theatre stage can be daunting. Louise makes that journey a little bit easier.

Expertise, encouragement and honesty - I highly recommend her.

I've known Louise Balint-Kurti over two decades (yes, its been that long) and she is diligent, professional and has a studious and efficient approach to breaking down a script with a no-nonsense delivery on her feedback. Her previous background in a variety of other roles in the industry means she can approach the material from a wide perspective and give insight on topics and areas that others may not be able to. She is fast and good at delivering work to a high standard on time. I highly recommend her services to any scriptwriter, be it for the medium of stage or screen, feature or short film.

Louise has been immensely helpful to me, a first-time playwright. She has encouraged me to include conflict where none had occurred to me, to look at ways in which to introduce a variety of voices and to consider the structure of the piece.

I have greatly appreciated Louise’s ability to question and advise with sensitivity. She is a generous collaborator who manages to instil confidence even when making suggestions. I'm looking forward to working with her again.
